The Importance of Annual Eye Exams for Children
Patients of all ages benefit from regular eye exams, but since children’s eyes can change rapidly during their formative years, annual eye exams are particularly important.
To ensure that all children can get the care they need, regardless of family income, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers the cost of annual eye exams (as well as any follow-up assessments) for children up to 19 years old.
Children aren’t always able to effectively communicate when something is wrong, and may not even realize they’re experiencing vision problems. Annual eye exams let your child’s optometrist keep an eye out for signs of trouble and address or correct any problems that may arise.
